Lars Liebeler has been practicing law in Washington, D.C. for more than thirty years.  He practices civil litigation, with emphasis in the areas of commercial and technology law.  Mr. Liebeler has particular expertise in the areas of the False Claims Act / Qui Tam litigation, antitrust and trade regulation, contracts, and constitutional law including eminent domain and governmental takings under the Fifth Amendment.

Mr. Liebeler has extensive experience in litigating international commercial arbitration matters including cases involving power generation plants in Africa and Bulgaria.  He has also represented claimants in seizure, takings, and forfeiture matters against the United States government stemming from international activities.

 

Mr. Liebeler is an experienced litigator, having conducted countless jury trials and evidentiary hearings in Federal and state courts in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia.  He has argued multiple times in the U.S. Court of Appeals and before the Virginia Supreme Court, the District of Columbia Court of Appeals, and the Maryland Court of Special Appeals. 

He has also represented clients before the European Commission in Brussels and testified as an expert on U.S. competition law before the full 14-member European Court of First Instance in Luxembourg. 

 

Mr. Liebeler co-authored an amicus brief in Microsoft’s appeal before the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit and has debated the Court’s ruling in the United States v. Microsoft case in numerous public fora and on MS-NBC, CNN, C-SPAN, and FOX NEWS television networks.

 

A 1984 honors graduate of Middlebury College, Mr. Liebeler received his law degree, cum laude, from the Indiana University School of Law in 1987, where he served as Administrative Editor of the Indiana Law Journal. He authored “Trademark Law, Economics, and Grey Market Policy” which was published in the Indiana Law Journal. 

  

Following graduation from law school, Mr. Liebeler served as law clerk to the Honorable Terrence W. Boyle, United States District Judge for the Eastern District of North Carolina.  Mr. Liebeler practiced in the litigation group at the Washington, D.C. office of Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld, LLP and was a principal in Thaler Liebeler LLP for nearly 20 years.
